About this worksheet
Clock faces are drawn with all 60 minute marks, and the hour hand moves between numbers as it does on a real clock, so students learn to read its exact position.
Each sheet contains 8, 12 or 16 problems (your choice) and is generated at random. Press “New problems” as many times as you like; there is no limit and no account needed.
Worked example
:
- The short hand is the hour hand. It points exactly at the 10, so the hour is 10.
- The long hand is the minute hand. It points straight up at the 12, which means 0 minutes: the time is on the hour.
- Write the hour, a colon, then the minutes with two digits: 10:00.
Answer: 10:00
Teaching tips
- At half past, read the number the short hand has just passed, not the one it is moving toward.
- Use a real clock with movable hands for the first few problems.
