About this worksheet
Most problems need regrouping from cents into dollars.
Each sheet contains 15, 20 or 25 problems (your choice) and is generated at random. Press “New problems” as many times as you like; there is no limit and no account needed.
Worked example
$21.68+$32.94
- Line up the decimal points and work in cents: $21.68 is 2168 cents and $32.94 is 3294 cents.
- Ones: 8 + 4 = 12. Write 2 and carry 1 to the tens.
- Tens: 6 + 9 + 1 = 16 (including the carried 1). Write 6 and carry 1 to the hundreds.
- Hundreds: 1 + 2 + 1 = 4 (including the carried 1). Write 4.
- Thousands: 2 + 3 = 5. Write 5.
- 5462 cents = $54.62. Put the decimal point back two places from the right.
Answer: $54.62
Teaching tips
- Remind students that 100 cents make one dollar, so a carry from the dimes column goes into the dollars.
- Use play money for the first problems.
