MathSheetLabWorksheet #543172

About this worksheet

Each sheet contains 16, 20 or 24 problems (your choice) and is generated at random. Press “New problems” as many times as you like; there is no limit and no account needed.

Worked example

712+1112=
  1. The denominators are the same (12), so keep 12 and add the numerators: 7 + 11 = 18. That gives 18/12.
  2. Simplify: divide the top and bottom by 6. 18/12 = 3/2.
  3. 3/2 is more than 1: 3 ÷ 2 = 1 remainder 1, so 3/2 = 1 and 1/2.

Answer: 1 and 1/2

Teaching tips

  • A common error is adding the denominators too; fraction strips make the reason clear.
