About this worksheet
Each sheet contains 16, 20 or 24 problems (your choice) and is generated at random. Press “New problems” as many times as you like; there is no limit and no account needed.
Worked example
9099−8405
- Ones: 9 − 5 = 4.
- Tens: 9 − 0 = 9.
- Hundreds: 0 is smaller than 4, so borrow 1 from the thousands: 10 − 4 = 6.
- Thousands: 8 (the 9 became 8 after lending 1) − 8 = 0.
- Check: 694 + 8405 = 9099.
Answer: 694
Teaching tips
- Estimate the answer first.
