Multiplying by 10, 100 or 1,000 moves every digit one, two or three places to the left. Some problems use decimals such as 24.1 × 10, so the rule “add a zero” is not enough.

About this worksheet

Each sheet contains 18, 24 or 30 problems (your choice) and is generated at random. Press “New problems” as many times as you like; there is no limit and no account needed.

Worked example

89.5 × 10 =
  1. 10 has 1 zero, so every digit moves 1 place to the left (the number gets bigger).
  2. 89.5 × 10 = 895.

Answer: 895

Teaching tips

  • Use a place value chart to show the digits moving, rather than the decimal point.
